Solace

This is the poem which brought me back to the world of poetry after a long break. Just got this theme on a lonely cool night.

Still with silence, a lonely road,

                Silhouette of a master’s touch,

Drowsy moon on a snaily pace,

                Fragrance, of the dying roses.

Breeze unkind, a gentle caress,

As darkened clouds to the clearer sky,

Her muffled face to a ghastly glow,

With the roaring trees and hooting eyes.

Attire dark from dusk till dawn,

                Slower tread be witch’s style,

Faster signs a ghost in roam,

But neither was thy damsel’s move.

Still unkind, the wilder wind,

                Blowing off the evil’s cloak,

Lost its course, deep in dark,

Her combat with the cold unarmed.

Moving on with an angel’s grace,

                Numbing limbs marketh slower steps,

Worsens more where firesparks freeze,

With fragile lags moves my girl.

An instant where holds go loose,

From splendid leaf to floating dry,

Embracin’ her eternal hope,

Silence back, but now at heart.

1.On a silent and lonely road ,which looks like a Silhouette painted by a Master of art, the moon is slightly visible which is depicted by the word “Drowsy”. It’s the time when the roses, which bloom at daybreak, are withered away.

2.The breeze is  now a little fast,  whose gentle caress blows the cloth covering the face of the girl. The simile “Darkened clouds to the clearer sky ” tells that the color of the cloth is black and also that the girl has a beautiful face. The cloth reveals the face of the girl which looks a bit strange. At that time , due to the breeze, the ruffle of the leaves is personified as “roaring trees” and “hooting eyes “is a metaphor of the owls at night.

3.She has an outer wear which is black in color."Dusk" represents her hair at top and "Dawn",her feet. From her way of moving, it is seen that she is clearly a human girl. If she had been moving slow, she could be taken for Witch, and if faster, she would be a ghost in the usual night roams.

4.The breeze had turned more vigorous and is called as “Wind” to represent it’s intensity. The wind now blows off her Cloak .”Evil’s Cloak” refers to the color of the Cloak since black is a sign of evil. The Cloak gets lost in the dark and in the Wind. So she fights the cold weather alone without anything (other than her casual attire)to protect her .

5.Even then she moves on with the style of an angel. But her limbs are numb with cold due to which she starts to drag herself forward. The intensity of the cold is shown in the lines “worsens more where firesparks freeze”. The cold is so intense that it freezes the sparks of fire.

6.When the time has been reached , the one that holds something has to let it free. Here, the body of the girl holds her soul with great struggle. It is said from the line “From splendid leaf to floating dry”. The leaves of a tree when young and green are held strongly with the branches but on drying, the get detached and float in air.

“Embracin her eternal hope ” describes the fall of the girl to the ground. The girl embraces the earth by giving her soul out and the eternal hope is the earth in which she has to spend the rest of her days. The poem starts with a silent surrounding but now, the silence is back but it is at the heart of the girl (ie) the girl has died.
